Home Hope Horizon - 2024 Charity Appeal

Home Hope Horizon - 2024 Charity Appeal

Women who are pregnant and parenting experience higher rates of domestic and family violence, homelessness and poverty than almost any other cohort. This has impacts for women, their babies and children, our Canberra community and for generations to come. But pregnancy can also be a time of hope and change.

For over 26 years, Karinya House has had the privilege of walking alongside women who are experiencing crises, before, during and after pregnancy. Providing safe housing, health advice, casework, counselling, trauma services, baby goods and much more – we have supported over 2,500 women in Canberra since we began.

This unique charity appeal is inspired by 26 powerful years of resilience and strength. You can read more about this appeal here.

To launch this appeal, the Home. Hope. Horizon. Charity Luncheon is being held on 2 May 2024 at the Hyatt Hotel. You can read more about this event here. The aim of the event is to gather to celebrate the women we walk alongside and raise $40,000 through the event.

Partners supporting this event and the Charity Appeal are joined by others from the Karinya Village, ensuring the event has been fully booked!

Donations to the Home. Hope, Horizon. Charity Appeal, up to the first $30,000, will be matched. Matched giving funds have been provided by our event partners:

Parker Coles Curtis (Principal Partner), Parbery, Elect Printing, North Belconnen Community Association,

Canberra Southern Cross Club, Successful Alliances, CK Architecture, Patient Experience Agency, Solace Creations Double Glazing, Margaret O'Donovan, Playgroup Australia, Bellchambers Barrett, Farrar Gesini Dunn, Blumers Lawyers ACT

We thank our funding partners and you, our donors, for investing in the lives of women with us.

We choose to May for many reasons. May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. May also encompasses Mother's Day, and also Bereaved Mother's Day, which at Karinya we recognise can be both days of celebration and challenging days for many. Other days occurring in May which have significance to Karinya are International Day for Midwives, International Day for Nurses, National Volunteers Week, National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.

Matched value gifted to date: $29,368
