During the month of November, as well as support from Deloitte, the Canberra Centre and others, we were very pleased to welcome the team from Optus Business and donations from the Women of Curves Belconnen.
We received a call from Marie-Ann of Curves Belconnen in October, with an offer from Curves owner, Anita and all the women of Curves, to support Karinya for Christmas. After some discussion about needs, as well as running a raffle to raise much needed financial support, we decided the women would provide pamper gift bags, especially for the women of Karinya. They would contain a few personal care items – items that normally the women would not purchase for themselves – special hair care products, makeup or perfume. Perhaps something new for their baby. In November we were overwhelmed when Anita and Marie-Ann arrived with almost 100 gift bags, beautifully made up and personalised as gifts. In addition, the beautifully made quilt that was raffled through Curves Belconnen, resulted in a financial donation of $1,400. We were quite simply, overwhelmed by the generosity. Women supporting women – we love it!!
Another phone call received during October was from Michael of the Optus Business Centre in Canberra. The staff team had nominated Karinya House as the recipient of their corporate engagement volunteer hours. The end result of that discussion was that Chris, Lauren, Erin, Christian and Tania came to Karinya across two days, 10th and 11th November. Their task was to put our garages in order. These garages house our outreach and residential material support items. All the baby goods and other material support items that we provide to women and families are stored in our garages. We don’t have a great deal of storage and we like to keep it in good order both for ease of access, as well as maximising space capacity. We had not quite had the time to get it back to square following the move. The Optus Team did a most magnificent job. Tania also helped one of our caseworkers put together about 30 gifts, especially for the women of Karinya, to assist Santa with his gift giving at the Karinya Family Christmas Party in December. Just awesome work all around really. And, we believe the team will have a Corporate Table at the 2017 Mother’s Day Gala Dinner as well! Love it.
Thank you all – and our thanks to so many corporates, community groups and individuals who continue to support us each and every day.
