There is an inspiring group who meet weekly in Canberra, led by the wonderful Brett Yeats.

Through a series of connections, the Spiral Club decided to donate the weekly gold coin collections to Karinya House from March 2023.   Lavinia was subsequently one of the weekly guest speakers with Imogen, one of our fabulous caseworkers, and they had a great morning with the Club.  The monthly transfers of coins collected have amounted now to over $1,500. We thank Brett and the Spiral Club members for this contribution to services for the women we walk alongside.

Brett issues a regular email, which is a great read and details the incredible array of weekly guest speakers for the weeks ahead.  This is how he describes Spiral.

“Spiral is a community group which has been meeting weekly in Curtin for over fifty years. We are mostly retired, aged from our 60s to our 90s, and from varied backgrounds, occupations and origins. There is no religious, political or campaigning purpose for our meetings – simply a desire for company and conversation, and a wish to keep in touch with the community and the world around us. We meet in the hall at the Woden Valley Uniting Church at 40 Gillies Street, Curtin between 10 am and noon every Thursday. The entertainment is either a guest speaker, sometimes in a conversation format, or a musical performance. We serve a fresh, mainly home-made, morning tea around 11 am and we aim to finish at midday. We aren’t incorporated, we don’t have committees, membership forms or joining fees. We don’t even have a website!

Our schedule of speakers and musical performances goes out by email, with recipients invited to come to any meeting that interests them. Please share this email with friends, we welcome new faces.”

If you would like to know more about Spiral, please email us and we will share Brett’s email contact.

Spiral don’t have a logo, so hopefully Brett won’t mind that we have used a spiral image for this post.
