DONATIONS OF NEW/USED BABY GOODS
Karinya House is a community based organisation. We rely on the the financial support of our community as well as material support. Financial modelling of the New Karinya operating costs confirms that we need 3,000 financial Friends to remain sustainable. We have around 600. The most important and vital thing we need from our region is new Friends of Karinya.
If you can become a Friend of Karinya ($10 or $20 or $30 or whatever amount per month) or simply make a one off donation, you will support us ‘being the support person’ for a women in our community who is pregnant or parenting a new born, without any other support. Help us be their village, because every woman who is pregnant or parenting a new born should be surrounded by the supports they need during this important time.
Your donations will go directly to staffing costs. We do have many volunteers at Karinya, including our Committee. Our primary service is the provision of caseworkers to support vulnerable and at risk pregnant and parenting women through an individually based case management practice framework. Our staff contribute many hours that are above their paid hours. Whilst we do receive some funding from the ACT Government, this is not sufficient to fund all our caseworkers, including our midwives, and small administration team.
Donation of Goods:
Over the years since we started we have been so very well supported by all of the Canberra and Regional community. This support, particularly of donated goods, has continued to increase. We have had so many emails and messages offering baby goods, clothing, toys, toiletries and many other items for the women, babies, children, families that we assist. We know the Region has a generous heart.
We are pleased to announce however, that a wonderful group of community members, a number who have supported Karinya House with their own baby goods, have now established “Roundabout Canberra”. This is a local home grown charity who will focus solely on the re-homing of preloved baby goods and related items.
Karinya House and other services for women and families, (including hospitals) will source material support specifically tailored to individual case requirements from Roundabout Canberra. Roundabout Canberra will not have direct client contact, recognising the value and complexities of the specialised casework management services provided by Karinya House and others.
This is a fantastic initiative for our Region. Other cities across Australia have this kind of service, and we are very pleased to support and recommend Roundabout Canberra to you. We encourage you to contact Roundabout Canberra directly if you have baby goods in great condition, that you are able to donate.
Roundabout Canberra is now open for donations. They also have regular donation days advertise on their website as well as via social media. The team are also looking for volunteers (including handy persons) so if you have a couple of hours to spare on a regular basis then do please contact Roundabout Canberra. They are completely volunteer based.
If you have any enquiries please contact them directly. Items that will be accepted by Roundabout Canberra are listed on their website.
Alternatively, givit.org.au/give-items – Givit Canberra – will accept goods registered on their site. Our community are welcome to list items for donation in GIVIT’s “virtual warehouse” which is accessed by 250+ charities across Canberra. Simply head to givit.org.au/give-items to list, and a charity can reserve the donation and then will get in touch with you to arrange collection.
Karinya House will always require special support in the lead up to Mother’s Day, Easter and Christmas, and do hope you will continue to support Karinya House at these particular times of the year.
Thank you, thank you for your wonderful and continued support. We are grateful. And we are constantly amazed by your generosity.
