Karinya House is a community based organisation providing supported accommodation, transitional housing and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women and their families who are in crisis.

The service operates on a twenty-four hour, seven day a week basis and is located in the ACT. Karinya supports women from Canberra and surrounding regional areas. It is the only residential and outreach service specifically for pregnant and parenting women in the region.

Karinya operates out of two houses in the Belconnen locaility, referred to as Karinya House and Erin House.

Karinya House is a supported accommodation facility equipped to house three pregnant or postnatal women and their babies. Karinya House is staffed twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, and provides intensive support to its residents to assist them access opportunities, develop life skills, and build confidence in their parenting abilities.

Karinya’s second house, named after founding Committee members Erin and Reg Mills, was opened in December 2003. Erin House was purchased by ACT Housing and is in the same Belconnen locality as Karinya. This second facility provides clients with a transition between the supported accommodation offered at Karinya, and independent living. Erin House is not independently staffed, however staff provide support as required from nearby Karinya House, giving clients the opportunity to develop their parenting skills, in an environment where advice and assistance is never far away.
