Karinya House is a community based organisation providing supported accommodation, transitional housing and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women and their families who are in crisis.
The service operates on a twenty-four hour, seven day a week basis and is located in the ACT. Karinya supports women from Canberra and surrounding regional areas. It is the only residential and outreach service specifically for pregnant and parenting women in the region.
Karinya House is a supported accommodation facility equipped to house ten pregnant or postnatal women and their babies. Karinya House is staffed twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, and provides intensive support to its residents to assist them access opportunities, develop life skills, and build confidence in their parenting abilities.
Karinya operates out of a purpose built facility in the Belconnen locaility, which was constructed by the ACT Government and opened in August 2016. This complex is leased from the ACT Government. The complex comprises:
- Supported General Care Accommodation building (four bedrooms and two bathroom) with dedicated staff quarters
- Three – Two Bedroom Cottages and Four – Two Bedroom Units for independent living
- Administration Building with counselling and staff areas
