Karinya services continue quietly along each day, and we have been privileged as always, to walk alongside some wonderful women of our community, during their pregnancies or as they get to know their newborns.

We have welcomed a new Caseworker, Jane, along with three new Client Support Workers, Nailah, Sonja and Nicola who have joined Shannon who also started this year as part of our vital team of Client Support Workers – who are on hand during the overnight and weekend shifts.  We welcome these also wonderful women to the Karinya team.   Karinya House is currently full and we have around 25 women being supported in an outreach capacity, with another 10 women being contacted regularly pending first interview availability.

We have been supported by a number of community events during September. Our thanks to Debby with a Why, for the Clothing Swap event held on 10 September. The event was a great success and raised close to $1,000 for Karinya House.

Also in September was the fifth “Mercy Walk for Women” – 125 women walking 23kms from Boorowa to Galong. It was another wonderful day in great Spirit and raised $10,000 to support the work of Karinya House.    We also received other generous donations and contributions – financial and in kind. Pandora’s at O’Connor Pre-Loved Fashions, Residential Reports – “Without a Roof” Winter Appeal were among them, with wonderful contributions of $1,000 and $2,000 respectively.   The amazing result from the August Luton Charity Ball was announced at a thank you event on 27 September.  We are still somewhat overwhelmed with the realisation that $62,500 is coming as a donation to Karinya House from this event. (And the same amount also going the Hartley Lifecare and Project Independence).  Just amazing.  Our thanks to Richard Luton and the team at Luton Properties, who have committed to supporting “Homes of Hope” in 2018 and 2019.   The constant flow of financial contributions to our $800,000 annual target toward our annual operating costs, and the commitment of our Canberra and Region community really do keep Karinya going!  Thank you.

Coming up in October, apart from the Karinya 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner, you can enjoy a lovely community fete at the North Belconnen Uniting Church, on 21 October.  Karinya will be there and we will have a fabulous Sharwood Hamper being raffled at our information table.  On 27 October, Sarah Kelly is privileged to be opening the Weston Creek Craft Show  This is the 26th Year of the show and they have over 80 exhibitors.  This craft show has become quite an institution, and this year Karinya House is benefiting from the proceeds.

To keep in touch with what is going on at Karinya and for Karinya – by all who support us – keep an eye on our Facebook page, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter.  Latest videos are uploaded to our YouTube Channel.

We love the work we do at Karinya House and the community service we provide. We thank you, our community and our friends for sharing in our purpose of supporting pregnant and parenting women. Thank you!
