November 25, 2015
On 23 November 2015 some of our Committee and Staff attended the building site for Karinya’s New Home. The WHS Officer, Matther Hooper of Monarch Building Solutions, made us feel very welcome. We donned our safety vests, hard hats and safety boots, and we viewed what seemed amazing progress from the top of the site looking over the construction area. All of the concrete footings for the buildings, apart from the Administration building had been completed. A significant area of retaining wall at the base of the site had been completed, with all ground works well in hand. The Site Foreman, assisted with the tour and provided insightful information about the progress, along with Matthew. Needless to say, it was rather overwhelming to see our New Home coming along so rapidly. With the good weather, progress was being very well tracked. Photos of the site visit can be found in the Photo Gallery. Our thanks to Joseph Pratezina, Principal, Monarch Building Solutions and his team for their commitment to this project. We are so grateful to all involved, in particular the ACT Government, specifically ACT Housing and the Community Services Directorate, whose support for this project and the work of Karinya House is beyond measure, and indicative of their commitment to the Canberra Community and the values of social inclusion, equity and social justice.
