Over three weeks in Mental Health Month, Karinya House offered Drumming for Mindfulness workshops for the women we are supporting. These workshops were attended by a total of 9 women and 8 children who really enjoyed the experience. Here is what they had to say:
- Mummy can I come to drumming next week that was so much fun!!!!
- We liked drumming and Tim even went to sleep in all the noise.
- It was a nice chance to meet some of the other Karinya mums.
- It was good to get out of the house and do something different.
We are very grateful to the Mental Health Community Coalition of the ACT who supported this event, as well as to our wonderful volunteers who provided their time to assist with babysitting and preparing food, and to the North Belconnen Uniting Church who provided a beautiful venue for the events.
Drumming is a form of mindfulness meditation. This event promoted the importance of looking after mental wellbeing for all people. The event provided a safe and supported opportunity for together pregnant and parenting women to have fun, take part in an activity that supports their wellbeing, and build connections with one another.
