Every woman who is pregnant or has a new baby should be surrounded with the support she needs during this important time. However, not every woman has shelter, stability or support. Some may be at risk of violence, experience homelessness or be completely isolated. For over 22 years, Karinya House has provided immediate support for women who are pregnant or have new babies and have nowhere else to turn.

Karinya House provides safe housing, casework, support during pregnancy and birth and connections to health, welfare, legal, educational and financial services.
Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community based, grass roots, local organisation, supporting women in Canberra and the surrounding Region, who are pregnant or early parenting and in crisis.

The Karinya House_Practice Framework is founded within the principals of trauma informed care and practice. Individual casework management and flexibility in service provision are paramount at Karinya House. An individualised support plan is developed with each woman, in response to their presented needs. Our support plans are aimed at promoting self-direction, empowerment and competence which facilitate women moving forward on their own.

The Senior Health Professional/Team Leader has a critical role to play in ensuring all women at Karinya House can access holistic and quality health care and support.

Following the retirement of the current Senior Health Professional/Team Leader, Karinya House is now inviting Expressions of Interest in this role.

As well as working directly with pregnant and parenting women, the Senior Health Professional/Team Leader will be required to work collaboratively with the Karinya House casework team, along with external health and medical services.

The position also has a role to play in providing support and advice regarding organisational health and safety issues, policies and procedures.

An ability to work compassionately with women, who are pregnant and early parenting with complex needs and promote their empowerment and independence is an essential requirement of this position.

For further information about the role, including selection criteria and how to apply please contact Karinya House Executive Officer, Ms Belinda Munn via email: [email protected] or on 0408 095 243.
