In celebration of International Women’s Day 2020, the Canberra City Band – CW Big Band has been put together by women musicians across the region for a special one off gig. Come along for a great night of big band jazz, celebrating women composers, as well as the classic standards and pop favourites. All proceeds from ticket sales and raffle prizes will be split and donated to CCB Inc, one of the oldest community music organisations in the country, and Karinya House. Yes – Us.  We were very nicely surprised and extend our gratitude to all involved.

Why create the CW (Canberra Women’s) Big Band, we hear you ask.  Canberra has long had great representation of women musicians across many of our community and pro ensembles. Canberra is so lucky to have such a vibrant arts community across all disciplines including music, and the collaborators a special International Women’s Day gig would be the perfect way to celebrate this! The band is full of musicians from various ensembles across Canberra including current and ex members of Spectrum Big Band, Connexion Big Band, TraXion Big Band among others.

The CW Big Band will be highlighting women composers in the genre including a couple of their brilliant local composers. So book now so you don’t miss out!
