Karinya House walks with women in Canberra and the surrounding Region providing safety, shelter and a positive support network. A local, not for profit organisation, the Karinya House funding framework is a true cooperative of individuals, families, community groups, corporates, philanthropic and government funding partners. This cooperative approach to funding is a tangible expression of positive recognition of women in our community, who are pregnant or parenting. Your support and partnership with us is welcome.
Karinya House recognises the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to own and control their cultures and pay our respect to these rights. Karinya House acknowledges, respects and seeks to learn from the diversity of Indigenous cultures Indigenous world views, lifestyles and customary laws.
We extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who for thousands of years have preserved the cultures and practices of their communities on country.
This land was never surrendered, and we acknowledge that it always was and will continue to always be Aboriginal land.
The Karinya House Respect Reconciliation Action Plan
Our service is people intense and the practice framework is based on individual case management particular to the needs of each woman we walk alongside.
Karinya House is committed to ethical and effective practice, within an organisational culture inspired and sustained by the women with whom we work.
Supported and/or semi-independent transitional housing may be part of a woman's case management plan. Karinya House has four supported accommodation places, as well as seven semi-independent residences within our village.
Karinya House recognises that safety along with time and space for dialogue are powerful tools for reflection and action.
An individual can self-refer to Karinya House. Karinya House also accepts referrals from other community and health services, with consent.
