Just like a family, the amazing staff of Karinya House has always treated me with love and affection.
My relationship with Karinya began when I was pregnant with my daughter. At this time, I was living in Canberra completing my PhD. My husband was suffering from serious mental illness and was admitted to an Adult Mental Health Unit. My family live overseas. A friend told me about Karinya House, and a wonderful lady Anne got in contact with me. I was so scared, I had no idea of what to get for my child, what to do and how to get prepared for the birth of my baby. Anne treated me with lots of care and kindness. I was offered material goods to help with my baby, generous support and advice. I remember when I was in hospital for delivery Anne was there for me holding my hand. I felt the warmth and love at that time when I needed my mother most, Anne filled that space.
I can never forget the love and support by Karinya House
Thank you Karinya House!

Dear Friends,
As you know Mother’s Day is a day we especially celebrate, recognizing the inspirational, resilient and courageous women of Karinya.

I was recently both honoured and humbled to receive the 2017 ACT Woman of the Year Award on behalf of our dedicated Karinya
Team. When receiving this Award, I commented

“…mothers who are homeless and face limited opportunities, are never far from judgement, criticism and, at times, incredible prejudice by some in our community, even in 2017.”

As Karinya Friends please partner with us in addressing this prejudice and supporting Karinya’s inspirational women and their children. Your donation to our 2017 Mother’s Day Appeal will make a difference.  Donate here.

With gratitude

Marie-Louise Corkhill
Executive Director – Karinya House
